Your building entrance is arguably the most important single feature of your design.

As the first and last point of contact for visitors, it is key to creating the right impression of your building. Your reception design communicates the values of the occupants and must perform on both a visual and practical level – from providing a comfortable waiting space to signposting for best traffic flow and offering the first line of defence against dirt and moisture to improve the lifespan of your interiors.

To inspire your next reception design, here are 5 entrance matting installations to help spark your creativity:

112-116 Old Street: EXPLORE YOUR ORIGINS

Formerly home to the Margolin Gramophone Factory, 112-116 Old Street was fully refurbished to provide 27,000 sq ft of office space. The bright white walls and high column-free ceilings allow the building to be filled with an abundance of natural light.

The bold red Entrance Matting cut into the stone floor is suggestive of sound waves, creating a unique design statement whilst communicating the building’s origins.

The black stainless steel ceiling panels give minimal masking of the services overhead to further the industrial luxe aesthetic.

One Drummond Gate: BRING THE OUTSIDE IN

Occupying a prime position on the corner of Drummond Gate and Vauxhall Bridge Road, One Drummond Gate is a landmark office building offering open plan accommodation and great views across central London.

INTRAshape matting tiles were used to echo the reception’s statement wall cladding and stretcher brick bond pavement outside. This continuity of design between the street and the building’s entrance makes a striking first impression.

INTRAshape entrance matting is available in five polygonal shapes and different tile sizes, which combined with a wide range of coloured fibre inserts, offers an endless versatility of design.

Three Pancras Square: CREATE A WARM WELCOME

The Grade A office space with a double-height reception at Three Pancras Square is part of a two million sq ft cluster of 12 office buildings. It was designed by Porphyrios Associates, the same practice that jointly created Kings Cross Masterplan.

Using wood, leather and bronze alongside rich jewel tones, this large open-plan reception area exudes all the warmth of a Victorian gentleman’s club. The use of natural, sustainable materials also helped the building achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

This warmth is echoed in the entrance matting which has been bronze anodised to match the interior finishes, creating a perfect barrier to dirt and moisture to protect the dark wooden flooring and plush pile rugs.

Grosvenor Street: MIX & MATCH

24-25 Grosvenor Street in Mayfair offers 14,000 sq ft of high-quality office space over basement, ground and five upper floors.

The architect has created two individual yet complementary entrance designs using INTRAdisc bronze capsules and INTRAform Double Module cut directly into the ceramic flooring.

The precise manufacture and installation create a clean, sharp finish to provide a strong visual statement that perfectly aligns with the interior design concept.

200 Gray’s Inn Road: DON’T BE SQUARE

Designed by world famous architects Foster and Partners, 200 Gray’s Inn Road was built for ITN in 1990 as its headquarters and broadcasting hub.

By working directly with Conran + Partners during the refurbishment of the space, INTRAsystems created a functional and design-led entrance matting system that works in harmony with the overall look and feel of the building.

The soft graduation of the entrance mat combined with linear anthracite fibre beautifully complements the split-level entrance design and stacked reception desk.
