Eye-catching Entrance Matting for Unique Autotrader HQ
The Autotrader team challenged their designers Oktra to create something entirely new for their headquarters in Manchester. The entrance was an integral part of the wow factor, featuring three vehicles suspended from the ceiling over the arched opening. Then, the INTRAshape chequered Entrance Matting continues the automotive theme by echoing a motor racing finishing flag. An idea inspired by our Entrance Matting at Royal College Strathclyde.
The INTRAshape Entrance Matting looks great and stands up to the footfall of 900 employees and visitors for this 130,000 sq ft office across eight floors.
Form with Plenty of Function
INTRAshape provides high fibre coverage in whichever shape you choose from the range of 13 shapes and sizes. Each tessellating tile has a recycled aluminium frame that supports the weight of feet and wheels so the fibre section doesn’t compress. This helps to maintain the fibre integrity for longer compared to standard sheet fibres. The aluminium frame also helps scrape some of the dirt from shoes and tyres.
It is suitable for fully multi-directional traffic, so is ideal in busy, open reception areas, atriums and welcome hubs. The closed construction makes it full DDA compliant and makes maintenance easier, just needing a daily vacuum to remove the debris collected in the fibres. Plus, we provide a 10-year warranty.
Complex Design Conceals Simple Fitting
The tile format of INTRAshape also makes handling and installation easier. No tricky wires or connections to take up valuable time. In most cases, we supply INTRAshape to match the exact dimensions of the matwell frame, which reduces waste and makes installation quick. However, in this instance Oktra wanted to play with perspective so their design offsets the square format INTRAshape tiles within a trapezoid to seem more energetic and dynamic.
Even though the tiles are robust with their aluminium edges, we manufacture the underneath using recycled PVC, then fibre, with the aluminium a component layer. That means you can still cut them to shape without losing structural integrity, even for intricate detailing like around the rotating door. For this installation, Syncros laid out the tiles and then used a track saw for the lengths and a jigsaw around the revolving door to ensure a neat finish.
A Winning Formula
Oktra selected INTRAlux Elite fibres in Black 608 and Grey 606 to represent a chequered flag with the practicality to hide dirt and moisture. We make the high-quality fibre from ECONYL®, a recycled nylon made using ocean plastic and fashion waste.
The combo of fine and coarse fibres helps lock in moisture and dirt, preventing it being walked around the building and damaging other flooring. It has a 820g/m2 pile weight for a premium look and feel. That fibre density, combined with the PVC underneath helps to dampen sounds, which is a particular benefit in large open areas.
