Coir-like Sustainable Retail Matting
The craft bakery chain Gail’s has chosen INTRAsystems Entrance Matting for all their branches. When they were considering a new specification, they looked for sustainability, long-term value and of course, performance.
Sustainability is a key consideration for all their bakeries. They work with partners to ensure their fixtures and fittings are upcycled, recycled, recyclable and minimise waste for a circular economy ethos. But they never compromise on function. INTRAsystems offers different Entrance Matting options that ticked their boxes, but they went for INTRAform DM Low Profile Silver with Elite Coco 604 fibre inserts.
Brand Approved Entrance Matting
You will find INTRAsystems Entrance Matting in 24 Gail’s across the UK with more planned. The latest install was Gail’s new branch in Crossrail Place, London. While the matwell is small (1.93m2), the INTRAform DM Low Profile Silver with Elite Coco 604 fibre inserts stand up to the challenge. Within a covered shopping centre, water and dirt ingress is minimal, so it serves as a final barrier to keep the bakery floor safe and clean.
The Elite Coco 604 fibres match the natural tones of the woodwork around the store. With the appearance of traditional coir matting but fully DDA compliant and with a more hard-wearing and long-term performance. Made from recycled ocean plastics and waste, the ECONYL® inserts combine fine and coarse fibres to capture fine and large dirt particles. It also provides effective moisture absorption of 5.4L/m2.
Compliant and Convenient
INTRAform DM Low Profile is a tough 100% recycled aluminium carrier with wider fibre inserts for extra absorption and a smarter look. The 12mm depth means it’s ideal for shallow matwells or surface mounting. The closed construction is fully DDA compliant and easy to keep clean with regular vacuuming. The interlocking sections are quick to install, extremely tough and come with a 10-year warranty – it will outlast their store refit schedule. All this means it’s a popular choice for retail settings.
We supplied the planks to the exact size of the matwell to reduce waste. But installers can easily cut to shape with a chop saw if needed. It is compatible with a wide range of our inserts including fibre and rubber for zone 1 and zone 2 matting. As a UK manufacturer and with good stock levels, we can supply in 3-5 working days to meet the fast pace of shopfitting. For this project, we quoted, provided drawings for approval and delivered to site within 10 days.
Proving Time
Before Gail’s finalised their Entrance Matting specification, we provided samples, EPD’s and maintenance documents to ensure they could make a fully informed decision. Our team worked closely with them to work out the best product combination to meet their aesthetic, performance and ethical needs. Once they decided, it was reassuring to hear the endorsements from Gail’s network of shopfitters who had used INTRAsystems and they welcomed the change from the old supplier.
