    A growing city

The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA) – renamed P&J Live as part of a five-year rights deal with Scotland’s preeminent publisher, DC Thompson – officially opened its doors in Summer 2019.

Offering 48,000 square metres of multi-purpose event space, the £333 million high-tech development next to Aberdeen International Airport is the UK’s single largest investment of its kind and just one of many happening across the growing city.

    P&J in Numbers

Designed to replace the Aberdeen Exhibition Conference Centre, P&J Live boasts a 15,000-capacity arena, 7 conference suites, 3 exhibition halls, 9 meeting rooms hospitality suites, VIP lounge and 150-seat restaurant.

The venue is expected to contribute an additional 4.5million visitors and £113 million of visitor spend to the Scottish economy.

    Sustainability at the heart

One of Aberdeen City Council’s key objectives for the development was to meet the highest environmental standards.

The site has its own energy centre that uses food and garden waste to provide local heating, cooling and power. Whilst the surrounding parkland has been planted with more than 30,000 trees and shrubs including native species.

As a result, P&J Live is on course to achieving ‘BREEAM Excellent’, which would be the highest environmental standard achievable for a venue of its type in the UK.

Entrance Matting to Enhance the Building

INTRAsystems consulted with Keppie Design to specify entrance matting systems suitable for the multiple entrances whilst upholding the projects BREEAM aims.

The designers settled on INTRAform Double Module with a combination of ribbed rubber and INTRAlux Elite fibre inserts in Anthracite for the main entrance where traffic would be most extreme.

The first metre of ribbed rubber inserts act as an efficient scraper, whilst the extra wide fibre inserts that follow absorb maximum dirt and moisture. The superior tufting of INTRAlux Elite can absorb up to 5.4l/m² making it perfect for entrances open to the elements for prolonged periods – ideal for the event complex that will be subject to thousands of event visitors over concentrated time periods.

Secondary entrances also utilised INTRAform DM with just INTRAlux Elite fibre inserts. With mat depths ranging from 3.5m to 6.5m, all entrances meet the BS 7953:1999 standard and exceed the WELL recommended minimum length of 3 metres.

The matting system is constructed from 100% recycled and recyclable aluminium profiles with 100% Econyl regenerated nylon fibre inserts, to further uphold the project’s excellent environmental credentials.
