    Attention to detail

nhow London, located in Shoreditch, is part of the 250 City Road development, designed by Foster + Partners.

Run-of-the-mill entrance matting was not an option for this brand. Their disruptive design approach creates iconic interior décor inspired by their location.

The space functions as both a hotel and a creative hub, designed to pay ‘tribute to both the city’s industrial past and its tech-filled future’.

With exquisite attention to detail, EPR architects consulted with the team to create an entrance matting design that would embrace the creative brief.

    London ‘Reloaded’

From the lobby to the rooms, the theme of ‘London re-loaded’ runs through the building. Everything from the Big Ben rocket sculpture to tables featuring cockney rhyming slang and references to the Royal Family showcase the city’s greatest hits with an unconventional twist!

The entrance matting system had to stand proud alongside this quirky interior, without compromising on performance.

With polished concrete flooring and circle slide doors, good water absorption was crucial. Heavy footfall and wheeled traffic were also key considerations in the specification.

The team also wanted to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating for the hotel, so sustainability credentials were essential.

INTRAform DM entrance matting features at all three pedestrian entrances. The extra-wide fibre inserts used in this system provide optimum moisture absorption making it an excellent choice for doorways that are frequently open to the elements.

Dual green tones are woven through the interior design and nhow London signage and this continues into the entrance mat design for visual cohesion.

The alternating light green and dark green fibre inserts are A+ rated in the BRE Green Guide, supporting the architect’s BREEAM aims.

The feature floor finishes beyond the matwell use brass transition strips between surfaces. For continuity, the aluminium profiles of the entrance matting system are also anodised to match.

By using a circular matwell at one door, the entrance mat itself even becomes a design feature of this most unusual building.

The nhow specification is one of the most striking entrance matting designs in our portfolio. For more design inspiration – including herringbone designs, polygon tiles and matting discs – visit our Gallery.
